The same source that got the date of the June Nintendo Direct right claims the next one has been moved forward and no one is sure why...

There’re two big unknowns in the video games world at the moment: when the next GTA 6 trailer will debut and when Nintendo will officially unveil their next console – currently nicknamed the Switch 2 . Nintendo has said they’ll announce the new console before April next year but it’s very hard to guess whether they’ll do so this year or not, and risk putting people off from buying the current Switch at Christmas – when they have an unusually large number of prominent releases scheduled. However, one reliable leaker suggests that, while he doesn’t know when the reveal will be, Nintendo has moved its usual September Direct forward, as well as a new Indie Direct, and it’s not hard to imagine why that might be.

.. There’s almost always a Nintendo Direct in September, and certainly plenty to talk about this year, but leaker Brazil (aka PH) claims that both the Direct and an Indie World have been brought forward and both will take place this month instead.

Brazil got the date of the June Nintendo Direct correct and was one of the first to suggest that the Switch 2 would not release until 2025 (although there’s disagreement as to whether that was a delay or just the plan all along). Unfortunately, the podcast in which he revealed the information is in Portuguese and it’s difficult to get an accurate translation, especially in terms of what was insider info and what was merely speculation. It seems that the only thing he definitely predicted is that unspecified presentations have been moved forward to ‘the next couple of weeks’, with the implication being that it’s a Nintendo Direct and a new Indie World – the latter of which Brazil had already leaked.

He then speculates that the Switch 2 announcement will happen in October or November, following the pattern of the Switch 1’s reveal. The situation is different this time and, especially with its busy autumn release schedule, Nintendo has a lot going on at the moment.

It could be that the Direct is being moved forward simply to make room for more than one this autumn, to showcase individual games such as Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom , Super Mario Party Jamboree, and Mario & Luigi: Brothership. Zelda is out on September 26, so it would make sense to have a Direct coming out before that. Although on the other hand, Nintendo released a fairly substantial overview of the game earlier this month.

Trying to second guess Nintendo is always a mug’s game, but Brazil was right about the last Nintendo Direct and it could be that the announcement everyone has been waiting for is now only a matter of weeks away...
