Sunday, August 25, 2024 Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Ministry of Tourism has announced a new draft national tourism policy aimed at positioning Nigeria as a leader in the global tourism sector. Minister of Tourism Lola Ade-John made the revelation during a virtual meeting with stakeholders on Saturday. The draft policy, developed with the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) and other key industry stakeholders, marks a significant milestone in advancing Nigeria’s tourism industry.

Minister Ade-John described it as a crucial step towards aligning Nigeria’s tourism sector with international standards and sustainable practices. “This draft policy represents a major leap forward for Nigeria’s tourism sector,” said Ade-John. “It reflects our collective commitment to transforming Nigeria’s tourism into a key driver of economic diversification.

” The policy emphasizes sustainable tourism, community engagement, and diversification of tourism products. These focus areas are intended to stimulate economic growth, generate employment, and preserve Nigeria’s cultural heritage. The draft also includes a comprehensive approach, addressing critical issues such as digital transformation and synergies with the aviation sector.

The policy is expected to be finalized by October, with a formal presentation to the Federal Executive Council scheduled for November. Stakeholder inclusivity has been a priority throughout the development process, ensuring that diverse perspectives from government officials, private sector representatives, and industry experts were considered. The next steps involve further consultations and refinements to the draft before its official implementation.
