And one foodie from Italy, where pizza derives from, said it was provocative. TV cooking queen Nigella made the Crustless Pizza her Recipe of the Day. As well as cheese and tomato, the toppings she added were chorizo, ham and sweetcorn.
“I wouldn’t want to go bandying around the name of this recipe in Naples, but this is what I call it,” Nigella, 64, said. “If it helps, think of it as a cheese toastie, only without the bread. “I made this so often when my children were young.
” But one angry Italian called Luigi said: “I’ll call it a cheese toastie. “You like to provoke the Italians.” Nigella is known for her wacky food combos like spaghetti with marmite and caramel on potatoes.
Robin Finesilver said: “This, and your spaghetti and Marmite were my ex’s favourite recipes of yours. “She’s not allowed to cross the Italian border.” Billie McDiarmid fumed: “Part of a pizza’s charm is the crust.
” Stephen Donophan exclaimed: “But I love the crusts.” Another joked: “Looks like an omelette.” Sara Heyl added: “I like the name ‘Cheese Toastie’ better than ‘crustless pizza’.
” Yet James Heath said: “Lovely Nigella.” Donyel Caruth added: “Looks tasty sista.” In 2020, Nigella was ridiculed for calling a ‘microwave’ a ‘mee-cro-wah-vay’’.
