NHS nursing chiefs have urged people to delay hospital visits if unwell. The plea comes as hospitals in Suffolk and north-east Essex are inundated with patients suffering from seasonal illnesses. Catherine Morgan, chief nurse at East Suffolk and North East Essex NHS Foundation Trust, said: "We want to protect our patients from becoming even more unwell caused by viruses brought into the hospital by visitors who are themselves unwell.
" Susan Wilkinson, chief nurse at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, added: "If you are unwell, we are asking that you delay your visit until you have been clear of symptoms for at least 48 hours before visiting. "If your visit is urgent and cannot be delayed, then please contact the ward you would like to visit directly." Lisa Nobes, chief nurse at NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board, said: "If you are poorly, please consider who you’ll be visiting.
"Babies, young children, people with long-term conditions and the elderly are particularly susceptible to picking up winter viruses that can make them seriously unwell.".
