But a number of cruel trolls attacked the pageant queen for her appearance and suggested she won only because of the status of her father, a Turkish diplomat. Miss Bilgen turned off comments on her social media channels and responded to the criticism during a television appearance. One troll posted a picture of her next to a male character posing as a woman in the 1984 film Şabaniye, captioned 'Miss Turkey 2024'.

The cruel post was liked 62,000 times and seen nearly three-and-a-half million. Another user chimed in: 'I prefer Şabaniye.' Keyboard warriors senselessly compared the model, who stands at 5ft 9' (180cm) to male and transgender actors.

Others suggested she had somehow won because of her father's role as Turkey's ambassador to Kyiv. Demet Akalın, a Turkish pop singer, had posted on Twitter/X: 'Maybe she'll give the crown back or if there was something like a public vote..

. 'Honey, you might want to win, but this is a beauty pageant, not favoritism.' Bülent Ersoy, a singer and actress who is transgender, said : 'Is this beauty? She has masculine features.

' But some turned out in Miss Bilgen's defence, heralding her for helping to break down antiquated and unrealistic beauty standards through her role on the top stage. 'Miss Turkey 2024 adapts to the world by breaking down social perceptions of beauty,' one user wrote . 'The last few generations have hated themselves and are going from one aesthetician to another, against the perceptions of beauty such as big hips, thin waist, 90-60-90, tiny nose, full lips.

' 'In defiance of those who try to impose their own perception of beauty and make our girls feel worthless if they do not conform to society's perception of beauty, Congratulations to our Miss Turkey 2024 beauty, doctor Idil Bilgen.
