A woman has died after being bitten by a mosquito in New York. She became the first person to die from eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) in the state in nearly a decade, prompting the Governor to declare an imminent public health threat. Governor Kathy Hochul yesterday announced the death, in Ulster County, and outlined measures that state officials are taking to reduce New Yorkers’ risk of exposure to the disease.
The patient was diagnosed three days ago with the first human case of EEE in New York since 2015..
