MOUNT CARMEL — The Mount Carmel Board of Mayor and Aldermen introduced Jim Stables as the new town administrator at Thursday’s meeting. “I’m honored to be here,” Stables said at the meeting. “I’ve served 40 years in municipal government, most of my time as a fire rescue professional and public safety professional.

I’ve also served as city manager in other places. So I’m just blessed to be here in the town of Mount Carmel. It’s beautiful, and you all got some great folks here, and I look forward to the future.

” His resume details his experience as fire service leader, fire chief and interim city manager. He emphasized the importance of teamwork, transparency and accountability. Stables had worked in many places, including Florida, when he relocated to Johnson City.

He continued working in Florida as the Boynton Beach interim city manager, but turned down the opportunity to make that job permanent. He said Mount Carmel offered a better work-life balance. “I think Mount Carmel is a wonderful town,” he said.

“I think they’ve got some issues to deal with, but I’m the right guy to step in and help with those issues.” One topic of concern was brought up at the BMA meeting regarding the sewage plant crisis. The city faces a $187,000 charge for multiple violations.

Stables proposed two resolutions at that meeting to begin addressing the problems. “I have to navigate some fairly large issues that the city has faced for some time,” Stables said. “And my goal is to continue navigating that successfully and bring the city out on the other side with good result.

” He said the town has many diverse perspectives and expectations. “Mount Carmel is going through a renaissance, if you will, of visions colliding,” Stables said. “And by the end, we’ll figure out what that vision looks like with a collective.
