A new music and performance project is set to launch in Bolton . Bang ON! is aimed at D/deaf, deafened, hard-of-hearing people, and children of Deaf adults (CoDA) aged 16 and over. The project, run by the Bolton Deaf Society, will begin with drumming workshops on Fridays from October 26.
These will be led by Drum Happy CIC at the society's Bark Street base. The project will also feature signed songs and BSL poetry , with performances planned for January 2025. Funded by WEA, the project aims to improve participants' creative thinking skills, which are valuable in the current job market.
There will also be opportunities to learn about employment in creative industries. The whole project will be BSL-interpreted, and all the workshops will be accessible to everyone. The project kicks off with drumming workshops run by local group Drum Happy CIC (Image: Supplied) Project coordinator Ruth Malkin said: "Bang ON! is about how to be brilliantly Deaf in Bolton.
"There is so much to celebrate about Deaf people and Deaf culture here in this town. "Here at Bolton Deaf Society, we have supported D/deaf, deafened and hard-of-hearing people, in many different ways, for nearly 150 years and we will continue to do so. "Come and help us to celebrate Deaf culture and identity.
