Officially due out March 18, 2025, fans can pick up the book on sale now for just $22 — 20% off its list price.

Target has an exclusive edition that contains “bonus content,” though it’s not clear as of this writing what exactly the bonus content will consist of. Previous special editions at Target have contained everything from exclusive artwork to a new cover to additional pages. $22.

Publisher Scholastic Press has provided both Amazon and Target with a mock cover of the new book for now, with the official cover reveal expected in the coming months. The book is set to contain 400 pages. Taking place 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, “Sunrise on the Reaping” follows a new group of characters as they prepare for the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games (also known as the “Second Quarter Quell”).

Of course, readers of the other books will know that — spoiler — Haymitch Abernathy won the Games, leading to a string of retribution from President Snow. This is the second preque l to the original Hunger Games book trilogy, following “ The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, ” which was released in 2020. “Sunrise” taks place 40 years after the events of that novel.

“With ‘Sunrise on the Reaping,’ I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, ‘the easiness with which the many are governed by the few,’” author Suzanne Collins told the AP. “The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question ‘Real or not real?’ seems more pressing to me every day.
