ROCHESTER — A new home care agency has opened its doors in Rochester. Village Caregiving Rochester, part of a national chain with locations in 20 states, has already begun providing in-home, non-medical care services in the area. At the helm is Mariah Aug, who has been working in the senior health care industry in Rochester since 2016.

"We've been open for a little over a month," said Aug, executive director of the Rochester location. "We currently have about a dozen employees, but we're always hiring, hoping to grow that." ADVERTISEMENT The home care services provided can include light housework, personal grooming, meal prepping or just providing companionship for seniors in their homes — Aug said the need for these services is growing.

"People want to age gracefully in their home," Aug said. "What we're doing is trying to help people stay in their homes as long as possible." These services can also provide relief to seniors' adult children who become caregivers as their parents age.

Aug saw this firsthand with her grandmother, who died at the age of 99 last year. "I got to see the benefit that in-home health care had on her and my family, with my mom and aunt being the primary caregivers of my nana," Aug said. "I got to see them have a little bit of relief when they would have home health care come in.

" As the Village Caregiving Rochester location grows, Aug said staff members come in with home care experience, no experience or with a certified nursing assistant background — everyone goes through training. "We take a variety of people with a variety of backgrounds," Aug said. "Everyone goes through extensive training.

We go through extensive background checks, fingerprinting and all that stuff to make sure that we're putting quality people into homes." Village Caregiving's other Minnesota locations are in Minneapolis and Duluth. ADVERTISEMENT.
