A new cocktail bar and brasserie has opened in Glasgow following the closure of Gin71. After a decade in Glasgow city centre, the closure of both the Merchant City and Renfield Street branches of the specialist gin bar, known for an extensive range of botanical spirits and teapot-sharing cocktails, was announced this year. A statement posted online reads: “Gin71 Has Now Closed.

“After 10 fantastic years of trading in Scotland , Gin71 has now come to an end. "Both venues - Renfield Street and Merchant City have now closed.” The 71 Renfield Street location has now reopened under new ownership as Roots Cocktail Bar and Brasserie.



Gin71 has said: “Please note that Roots is not associated with Gin71, and is an entirely separate new business.” Having welcomed its first customers on Friday, August 30, Roots now offers a selection of a la carte, lunch and afternoon tea menus. Owners said: “Whether you’re joining us for a leisurely brunch, indulging in a classic afternoon tea, or enjoying a meal from our carefully curated Table d’Hôte or À La Carte selections, you’ll find something to delight your palate,.
