Sunday, August 18, 2024 On Saturday, the Assam government made a significant stride in advancing the state’s tea tourism sector by issuing sanction letters to over 30 tea gardens. This effort is part of the second phase of the Assam Tea Tourism Development Scheme, which is designed to elevate Assam as a premier destination for tea tourism, showcasing its unique heritage to the world. Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, who took the lead in distributing the sanction letters, underscored the scheme’s crucial role in promoting Assam’s tea culture on a global platform.

“Today, I had the pleasure of distributing sanction letters to 34 selected tea gardens under Phase II of the Assam Tea Tourism Development Scheme,” he announced on X. Mallabaruah expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, describing it as a pivotal move to transform Assam’s rich tea heritage into a world-class tourism experience. He emphasized that the scheme not only aims to boost tourism but also to create sustainable livelihoods for local communities involved in tea production.

The Assam Tea Tourism Development Scheme is more than just a tourism initiative; it is a comprehensive effort to preserve and enhance the state’s cultural legacy while fostering economic growth. By integrating tea gardens into the tourism circuit, the government aims to attract both domestic and international tourists, offering them an immersive experience of Assam’s tea plantations, local traditions, and natural beauty. In related developments, on August 8, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the state’s increasing attractiveness to investors.

He attributed this to Assam’s investor-friendly policies and specialized industrial strategies. The Chief Minister noted that Assam is rapidly becoming a top investment destination, driven by the government’s unwavering commitment to nurturing industrial growth and enhancing the overall business environment. This positive shift is expected to further support the state’s tourism initiatives by providing a robust infrastructure and a favorable climate for business expansion.
