LAGOS – The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) has presented the 2024 draft of the National Tourism Policy to stakeholders in the tourism industry. The meeting took place at the Bon Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, and brought together influential figures from both public and private sectors, including former Minister of Tourism, Mrs Lola Ade-John, and Minister of Arts, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Barr. Hannatu Musawa.
These leaders, along with other top dignitaries, gathered to review and validate the draft, discussing how the policy could shape the future of tourism in Nigeria. Musawa expressed her commitment to having the policy passed before the end of the year, even as she acknowledged that tourism in Nigeria has significant potential, but said that progress in this sector had been limited. “This sector is huge for Nigeria, but before now, nothing much has been done.
Thank God for the pioneer minister, Hon. Lola Ade John, who put in the resources and expertise to ensure a proper structure,” she said. Musawa stressed the importance of establishing a solid policy framework to set the sector on a path for sustainable growth and announced plans to bring the policy forward to the National Executive Council (NEC) soon.
Supporting this view, Lola Ade-John, who pioneered the policy, emphasised how it would boost the Nigerian economy, especially at the community level. According to her, it would define roles across the sector and help meet international stan.
