Monday, January 20, 2025 Chinese and Nepali artists delighted audiences in the Kathmandu Valley on Saturday with vibrant performances of traditional lion and dragon dances, inaugurating a series of festivities to celebrate the Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival. The highlight of the event was a mesmerizing lion dance performed by Chinese artists, showcasing their agility on tables and high poles. The synchronized movements and playful interactions of the two “lions” earned enthusiastic applause and cheers from the crowd.

Additional performances captivated attendees at Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Chinese artists enchanted with a flower drum dance, while Nepali performers impressed with a monkey-step dance and a dragon dance, creating an atmosphere of cultural unity and joy. As part of the celebrations, the “Nepal Visit Year in China” initiative was officially launched, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China in 2025.



During the launch ceremony, the minister highlighted that Nepal Visit Year is among the key initiatives planned to commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Nepal is set to host a variety of events, including a lantern exhibition, cultural performances, and a football match, to celebrate the Spring Festival, which falls on January 29 this year. In early December, the Spring Festival was officially recognized by the United Nations.
