TOURISTS on the North Coast 500 have been blasted after a resident filled a bag picking up their litter from the beach. They decided to embark on the rubbish raid after the beach bins were overflowing. They also had space in their recycling bin, which was being emptied the next day. When they arrived at the beach, they quickly filled a shopping bag with booze cans and wrappers which had been discarded by selfish visitors.

Pictures were uploaded to Facebook page NC500: The Dirty Truth. The resident wrote: "Once again, the bin at the beach was overflowing with rubbish.

Shameful visitors were branded as "entitled", "lazy" and "disgusting morons" by furious residents. One brutal comment read: "Disgusting behaviour by morons. "Regardless of when bins are or should be emptied; what right-thinking person just leaves their rubbish littering the countryside, or piles it on top of, or beside already overflowing bins? or entitled." The NC500: Tourists vs locals THE NC500 is one of the most popular tourist trips in the country The 516-mile stretch has been compared to America's famous Route 66 and gets thousands of visitors every year. Tourists flock to take in the breathtaking views of the Scottish Highlands.

But they can get on the wrong side of the people who call the North Coast 500 home. Residents say the influx of visitors is leading to over-tourism and anti-social behaviour. Rows have erupted across the north about visitors ignoring rules while passing through towns.

They have come under fire for leaving behind piles of litter on beaches and dumping waste in public places. Parking and motorhomes have become a MAJOR gripe for locals. People living on the route have slammed camper drivers for clogging up their roads and not following advice for rural driving.

They have also come under fire for their parking, with some campers ignoring no overnight rules in local car parks, and taking up spaces outside local businesses instead of camping sites. There have even been some situations where they have parked on private land. Another shared a picture of a bin elsewhere which was left overflowing after the wrong rubbish was placed inside.

They wrote: "Even in the campsite which had very clear labelling and offered all recycling of everything including glass - the ‘non-recycling’ waste bin was full of cardboard boxes and cans. "The immaculate dish wash room had a tiny bin for food scraps and a sign saying ‘ rubbish at the entrance to site ‘ "But someone couldn’t be bothered to take theirs as they went past on way out and stuffed it hard into the food bin meaning the tea bags and coffee grounds that the bin WAS meant for was spilling out all over the place. "The poor cleaner would have to clean all around the bin and the whole bin lid - just selfish behaviour "It was the same at the kids' play area bin -meant for sweet wrappers and ice cream wrappers - someone's rubbish they couldn’t be bothered to take a quarter of a mile.

" 'It's not just visitors' But some were divided over the issue and argued it should be the COUNCIL doing more to empty the bins and stop them from overflowing. One person wrote: "Why don’t the council responsible for the bins, empty them more often during the summer periods, especially if people are actually using them!" A second commented: "Maybe the council should empty it a bit more often, like at holiday times." And a third replied: "Surely bins and waste management are a HC issue.

"At least people are using them, not chucking their waste. I've noticed glass recycling bins are not emptied frequently enough too. "Elsewhere in the UK councils manage waste and residents pay council tax irrespective of the source of the waste.

Littering is an issue and it's not just visitors." Police called on 'feral' campers It comes as embattled residents were forced to call the police on a group of campers. NC500 locals slammed "absolute scumbags" who were removed by cops after allegedly "trashing" a beauty spot.

One social media user said cops were called after two visitors allegedly became aggressive at a campsite in Durness, Highlands on Friday. They claim the unruly visitors even threw electric fence stakes at fellow roadtrippers.
