The Minister of Women, Family and Community Development said the event will be an opportunity for those taking part to showcase their creativity and innovation.

“We have various artists that we want to bring in to the festival as well as sponsorships, vendors’ participation – these are all economic opportunities for the state, for the people and for the vendors. “This will also benefit the target groups, including the people in my constituency, welfare recipients, and women,” she said at a press conference on the festival here yesterday. The Nyamai Sarawak Gastronomy Festival 2024 Malaysia Day Edition is set to take place from Sept 14 to 15 at Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV).

Event director Gordon Chung said the event targets about 150 vendors, and is not limited to gastronomy but also for arts, crafts, media as well as other exhibitors. “All these vendors will be spread out on all seven traditional houses in SCV. We want to make this to be a very welcoming event so that parents can bring their kids to learn on the unique Sarawakian delicacies as well as on Malaysia Day,” he said.

The Nyamai Sarawak Gastronomy Awards will also be held, featuring 12 categories designed to recognise the outstanding achievements of Sarawak’s local businesses, from traditional food stalls to luxury innovators. Also present at the press conference was Sarawak Gastronomy Association president Datu Edwin Abit..
