Janet Ogundepo The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control says it had inspected and removed all food and drugs affected by the September 10 flood in Borno State to prevent their re-introduction into the market. The agency made this known in a statement sent to PUNCH Healthwise on Tuesday and signed by NAFDAC’s Resident Media Consultant, Sayo Akintola. Akintayo stated that the operation, directed by the Director General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, NAFDAC, led to the inspection and removal of compromised food and drugs valued at over N5bn.
This development is coming after NAFDAC officials and the Borno State Ministry of Health, last Wednesday, uncovered several neglected drug warehouses that were damaged by the flood. The flood which was caused by the collapse of the Alau Dam spillway had led to the death of 30 people, displaced about half a million and destroyed several properties. PUNCH Healthwise earlier reported that the flooded warehouses located in Maiduguri’s Gamboru area, stored drugs worth millions of naira.
