Celebrate the end of summer at the Down Valley Vibes Festival this weekend. Enjoy two days of music, food trucks, vendors, friends and good vibes in downtown Eagle. The music starts at 2 p.

m. on Friday and will go all throughout the afternoon and evening. This event is brought to you by the Second Street Tavern team and that location and their sister bar, The Collective on Second, will host this fun event that will feature two rotating stages, 18 bands and two DJs.



Plenty of beverages, including drinks provided by Casamigos, Eagle River Brewing Company, Mountain Beverage and Archetype Distillery will be served alongside eats from food trucks and vendors to provide a fun, festival atmosphere. We’ve got another street party happening up valley on Friday. Head to the Riverwalk in Edwards for live music and a contest between over a dozen artists. The 6th Annual Art Battle and Block Party will be held from 4:30-8:30 p.

m. Winners of the popular vote will receive first, second and third place prizes provided by sponsors and Claggett/Rey Gallery. During the art contest, enjoy mingling with the artists and see them at work.

Learn about techniques, inspiration and strategies in trying to win the contest. Event attendees can also enjoy live music by Laurie D & the Blues Babes followed by the Evolution, who will both be performing on the streets of Riverwalk during the Art Battle and afterwards during the art auction and prize giveaways. Grab a cocktail and help out the Eagle Valley Humane Society, who will be providing drinks for a suggested donation.

The Alpine Arts Center will also help you show your creative side with an interactive booth where you can try the mesmerizing art of water marbling and you can take home your own art. Stick around and participate in a community art project that requires audience participation. See something you like? You can bid on art in addition to bidding on the work created at the Art Battle.

Nothing says summertime like a car show held in a beautiful outdoor setting and that is the idea behind Cars in the Park this Saturday at Harry A. Nottingham Park in Avon. New this year, Nottingham Park plans to welcome cars from all sorts of eras, makes and models for a day of family fun.

Cars will start rolling in when registration begins at 7 a.m. and then the viewing is open to the public from 10 a.

m. until 4 p.m.

Stick around for the awards that will go from 4-4:30 p.m. Registered car owners will vote for the Top Ten Vehicles and Best in Show.

Other specialty awards will be presented. Check out cars created during the golden age of automotive design, see rare collectible cars, or modern-day marvels, there should be a good variety at Cars in the Park. For more information, go to Avon.

Jost is a writer, actor, author and performer who was part of the “Saturday Night Live” writing team starting in 2005 and became the co-anchor on the show’s popular “Weekend Update” segment in 2014. From comedy flicks, live-action animated films and writing for The New Yorker and The New York Times Magazine, Jost will have plenty to share with the audience.

And speaking of audience, this is for mature audiences with a suggested age of 18 and older. Jost is fresh off his latest assignment, being a correspondent at the 2024 Summer Olympics, not in Paris, but in French Polynesia where he was covering the surfing competitions in Tahiti. Hopefully his foot has healed after his bout with coral reef while trying out the waves.

Peter Rowan, one of the founding members of the band Old & In the Way, will be joined by the Sam Grisman Project, and in particular, Sam Grisman himself, who is the son of David Grisman, who also was another founder of Old & In the Way. The Vilar Performing Arts Center is pleased to bring together this special evening that will celebrate 50 years of Old & In the Way. In a March 28, 2024 article in “Rolling Stone ,” Rowan talks about how Jerry Garcia of The Grateful Dead started Old & In the Way as a way to go back to his acoustic roots.

Rowan met and started playing with mandolinist, David Grisman, who introduced him to Garcia and the three started jamming together in San Francisco and Old & In the Way was born. The evening is set up where the Sam Grisman Project will play first before Rowan joins them on stage to play music from Old & In the Way. Get tickets soon for this unique performance.

Head down to the Eagle River Park on Saturday for Sustainable Splash, an event for-youth-by-youth for anyone who loves the outdoors. Mountain Youth’s mission is to continuously and collaboratively improve the lives of youth in the most powerful ways possible and the nonprofit teams up with a lot of other groups in the area. The 3rd Annual Sustainable Splash will host community partners who bring expertise around river recreation and sustainability.

This event is an opportunity to learn more about the local ecosystems and the best ways to experience them. The event will run from noon to 4 p.m.
