Shamir Tandon, the composer of films like Page 3, Jail, Mission Istaanbul and Corporate, spoke about working with the legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar on one of her last film songs. In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Shamir talked about getting the opportunity to work with famed playback singer twice. He also lauded her professionalism with the recording at the age of 80.

Your song Daata Sun Le in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Jail was voiced by Lataji, one of her last film songs? Lataji, as you know, is the reason for me to be what I am, my entire transformation from being a managing director of a multinational corporation to a music director is thanks to Lataji, and my debut as a music composer with her where she sang Kitne Ajeeb Hain Rishte in the film Page 3. Daata Sun Le, in the film Jail, was my second outing with her. How did you convince her to sing at a time when she had stopped singing film songs? After having recorded Kitne Ajeeb Hain Rishtein the film Page 3, I had developed a bond with her and fortunately by God's grace, she was very fond of me and hence when I took the Daata Sun Le song to her, she was very happy to do it.



Because at that age and stage of her life when she had reduced or rather, in fact, stopped to a large extent singing, apart from, of course Yash Chopra ji. She blessed me with the vocals once again and she did not only like the song Daata Sun Le, which was a prayer, but she also understood why I wanted her on board, because I am told that for many y.
