Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) NEW DELHI: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) launched a high-level investigation on Thursday following the drowning of a 45-year-old woman in an open nullah overflowing due to heavy rains in Andheri , a suburban area, on Wednesday night. The incident took place around 9.20pm near gate no.

8 of MIDC, Andheri East. The victim was identified as Vimal Anil Gaikwad . Local police and the fire brigade were immediately alerted and took the woman to Cooper Hospital, where she was declared dead upon arrival.



Meanwhile, vehicular and rail traffic in Mumbai resumed on Thursday morning after rains subsided in most parts of the city, although overcast skies remained. Local trains, regarded as Mumbai's lifeline, were running, though some services experienced minor delays, according to officials. Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses also resumed operations early in the morning.

Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert for Mumbai and neighboring districts — Thane, Palghar, and Raigad — for Thursday morning. In its 8am weather update, the IMD had predicted a "thunderstorm accompanied by lightning, heavy to very heavy rainfall , and gusty winds reaching 40-50kmph." The heavy rainfall on Wednesday led the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to declare a holiday for all schools and colleges on Thursday.
