Father's Day is coming up, and you're probably starting to think about gifts. We can all agree that it's the thought that counts and right now for a lot of families, big – expensive – flashy gifts are off the cards. Thankfully, one mum has shared a genius DIY gift, and the best part? It comes in at under $15.

Sarah, who goes by @theseasonalmum on Instagram, explained she saw the idea on TikTok and wanted to try it out herself. Watch the video above. First you need to get yourself two foil balloons , a D and an A, which come in at $1 each from Kmart.

Then it's time for a little photoshoot. Get your kid, or kids, to pose with the D and A balloons, take as many shots as you need to get some variety and to capture their personality. You'll also need two 'D' pictures to make it work.

Sarah used the gold coloured ones for her photoshoot with her son. Head back to Kmart to print out your three photos, which will spell DAD with the balloons once they're lined up in the frame. Photos are 10 cents a print, so you can go nuts with options.

The frame comes in oak, black and white, so you can pick whatever works with your décor. Then it's as simple as slotting the pictures in and you've got yourself a gorgeous present for dad that he's going to love.

If you want to go bigger, you could also go with 'DADDY' because Kmart does have a 5 slot frame option, which is $15. Sarah's followers loved the idea and it's inspired plenty of mums to do this for Father's Day. READ MORE: The pros and cons of Woolies' new 'scan as you go' system "This is such a beautiful idea!! Thanks for the inspo," commented one mum.

Another wrote, "Thanks for sharing it's such a cute idea! I've just been attempting this with a 10-month-old and a three-year-old." Other mums shared that they had been doing this kind of photoshoot for Father's Day for years and it had become a special tradition. "I've been doing this since my 11 year old was born.

Each year my husband pops the new photos on top. It's so cool looking back at the photos that started out with just one child and now we have three. It's my husbands favourite gift each year - the new photos," replied one mum.

Another wrote, "We've done this for the past 8 years 🥰 I used D and A paper mache letters from spotlight and resuse each year. A shadow box is great as you can keep the old photos behind the new ones each year." Sentimental and budget friendly? We absolutely love it.
