Mukesh Khanna SLAMS Ekta Kapoor’s modern take on Mahabharat: “Draupadi with a tattoo and Pandavas as models” Recently, Mukesh Khanna expressed his discontent with Ekta Kapoor’s adaptation during an appearance on Bollywood Bubble’s podcast Let’s Talk. Khanna, known for his portrayal of Bhishma in B.

R. Chopra's Mahabharat, didn’t hold back his criticism. He highlighted several issues with the way the characters were portrayed, particularly the depiction of Draupadi and the Pandavas.

“Draupadi with a Tattoo” and “Pandavas as Models” Khanna’s primary concern was with how the characters, especially Draupadi and the Pandavas, were depicted in Kapoor's version. “Ekta Kapoor gave Draupadi a tattoo, and the Pandavas were shown as models with bare chests,” Khanna remarked, criticizing the lack of authenticity in the characters' portrayal. He noted that in Chopra’s Mahabharat , the actors embodied their roles with a level of dedication that made them unforgettable.

He explained that the original cast, which included actors like Praveen Kumar as Bhim, Feroz Khan as Arjun, and Pankaj Dheer as Karna, brought a level of gravitas and respect to their roles that has endured for decades. He stated that the original Mahabharat succeeded because of the commitment and passion of its creators, particularly screenwriter Dr. Rahi Masoom Raza and writer Pandit Narendra Sharma.

“Today’s Arjun, Karna, and Bhim were just made slightly taller, but that’s not enough,” Khanna pointed out. He criticized the modern trend of focusing on style over substance, suggesting that contemporary adaptations lack the storytelling prowess and depth of Chopra’s version.
