ACTOR Jack Lowden has revealed he is still thrilled by his teenage appearance in adverts for Irn Bru. Lowden, 34, hailed the commercials as ‘works of art’ and told of his pride at having starred in them He said: “There’s always a fantastic moment when I am on a film set and the crew find it and you can just see folk in a group with their shoulders going up and down. Because it was ridiculous. “I was 19 and I was so excited to do it and it did seem like a rite of passage because some of those adverts were works of art and had that brilliant typical cynical sense of humour and I’m immensely proud of it.

Lowden called for backing for the arts and said providing stage or music outlets for young people was a ‘necessity’ and could boost mental health . The Gold star retains a close connection with the Borders in Scotland , where he grew up and recently took part in a play at his old school Earlston High in tribute to his former drama teacher. He said: “It is a fragile sector and I think people sometimes look at it in the wrong way, that it is a sort of luxury .

“I know it is nothing new and I know people always moan about the arts and it is quite easy to tell people to shut up.
