There's nothing more heart-sinking than strutting your stuff in your finest clothes, only to splatter it with a greasy stain that seems destined to stay forever. But what if there was a trick to banish that grease mark and make your clothes look pristine again? Fans of cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch have been sharing their top tips for tackling grease stains on Facebook - and the solution is probably sitting in your kitchen right now. In the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group, one woman sought advice: "What is the best product to clean clothes that smell of grease and have grease spots on the clothes?" She was asking for her neighbour, a donut maker, but let's face it, anyone can fall victim to those stubborn grease stains.

The responses flooded in, with many recommending good old bicarbonate of soda, which can be snagged for as little as £1.19 in some shops. A prominent cleaner advised: "For grease spots sprinkle with bicarb lightly rub in and cover with Elbow grease spray, leave for 15 mins spray more, rub and wash.

" Another added: "For getting rid of grease smells from clothes in the wash add two cups of bicarb in the drum with the clothing and two cups white vinegar in the fabric conditioner compartment in your normal washing detergent on the hottest wash. "Bicarb of soda in the washing machine", one person advised. Another chimed in with further gusto, "Put bicarbonate of soda in the washing machine with white vinegar works wonders!".
