Podeli : The Serbian parliament continued its debate on a draft law to ban lithium mining with insults and accusations traded between the ruling coalition and opposition. One of the major incidents was hurled at Zdravko Ponos MP (the leader of the opposition SRCE and a retired army Chief of Staff who family’s origins are in Croatia). He was called Ustasha (WW 2 Croatian fascist military who persecuted and killed Serbs in the Nazi puppet Independent State of Croatia).
The insult was allegedly shouted by Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) MP Nebojsa Bakarec (who was himself alleged to be descended from a WW2 Croatian officer). Accusations started after Danijela Nestorovic MP (Ecological Uprising – who proposed the draft law) told the session that her car tires had been slashed that morning. “I found my car tires slashed this morning and I would like to thank everyone who wishes me well but that won’t stop me from telling the truth nor will the people wiretapping my phone,” she said.
Speaker Ana Brnabic and other ruling coalition MPs responded demanding to know if that was true and if the incident had been reported. Brnabic said that Nestorovic reported the slashed tires to the police only after the speaker asked her. “So much for your credibility.
