Kamal Gianchandani, Gianchandani, President, MAI said,"The country’s largest cinema chain reported an Average Ticket Price (ATP) of ₹258 for 2023-24. Additionally, the Average Spend Per Head (SPH) on F&B at the chain during this period was ₹132. This brings the total average expenditure for a family of four to ₹1,560.

" At a recent roundtable, filmmakers discussed whether people are not going to theatres because it’s costly, or because there aren’t many movies worth spending money on. When Zoya Akhtar said that she thinks “people can’t afford to go to the cinema even though they want to go,” Karan Johar added, “The average cost for a family can be ₹10,000. And maybe those ₹10,000 are not in their economic planning at all.

” Responding to this, the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) said that the average ticket prices do not suggest that the cinema watching experience is expensive or out of reach. They also pointed that the “dynamic and flexible” cinema pricin.
