A young boy who died following a a tragic farming accident in Monaghan has been remembered as a ‘busy little man’ who had a great ‘love of life.’ 10-year-old Finn McGrath from Dunaree, Laragh, Castleblayney, passed away from injuries sustained in the accident at Temple Street Hospital on Saturday. The youngster is predeceased by his infant brother Kenan.

Finn is survived by his heartbroken parents Paula and Caroline, beloved brother Jack and sister Ella-Rose and grandparents James and Martina McGrath and Peader and Rose Keenan. Mourners gathered at St Mary’s Church in Lisdoonan on Thursday afternoon for the Lisdoonan National School pupil’s funeral mass. Students from the national school held a guard of honour in tribute to their classmate before mass.

A poem written from Finn’s perspective was read out during the service noting how his life ‘was filled with fun and adventure.’ Symbols brought up to the altar to represent Finn’s ‘love of life’ included a Massey Ferguson tractor and toy calf for his love of farming with his grandfather Peader; vice-grips for his love of mechanics with his father and a statue of a mother and son representing the ‘loving bond’ he had with his mum. Finn’s schoolbag was also brought up to highlight his love for his school friends.

Finn was laid to rest following the funeral service in the adjoining cemetery. Tributes have continued to pour in with one mourner writing on RIP.ie : ‘If love could have saved him, Finn never would have died.

‘Rest in peace and send strength to your heartbroken parents, little Finn. Thinking of his parents, siblings, family, friends and school community.’ Finn’s school, Lisadoon NS where Finn was a pupil wrote ‘deepest sympathy to Paul, Caroline, Jack, Ella Rose, Finn’s grandparents and all the Keenan and McGrath family on the loss of your beautiful Finn.

‘His bright smile and gentle nature will be greatly missed by all of us at Lisdoonan NS. May his soul rest in peace. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time’.
