THE “most desired” Bugatti ever built which was custom made with rare parts and designs is now up for auction at a staggering price. To get your hands on this 1939 Bugatti Type 57 C Atalante by Gangloff you’ll need at least £1.9million.
Images show the striking black Bugatti long tail edition with red and chrome detailing, with a highly sought-after roll-top roof, factory-supercharged 57 C chassis, retaining its original inline-eight-cylinder engine and gearbox. This late-production Atalante was produced to order by French coachbuilder Gangloff in a unique “longtail” design. There is a full recorded history of the vehicle from new and a report from marque expert Pierre-Yves Laugier.
There have been only two owners from 1955 to 1996 when the car was acquired by the Petersen Automotive Museum. The Bugatti is for sale with RM Sotheby’s. The listing states: “Bugatti’s ultimate pre-war roadgoing model the Type 57 was the successor to the swift and comfortable Type 49.
“1939 Bugatti Type 57 C Atalante is recorded on the factory build records as that most desired object, a factory-supercharged Type 57 C, as is noted by the ‘C’ suffix on its original engine number, 100, which remains in place to this day. “It was produced in May of 1939, a year in which the production of more sporting and rakish designs had either been outsourced in limited numbers or simply ceased altogether. “Nonetheless, when a custom order was placed for the ultimate sports coupe by fam.
