PETALING JAYA: The prize pool that awaits Malaysia’s first-ever Olympic gold medallists gets even bigger with an additional RM2 million from three private sponsors. The Youth and Sports Ministry announced that Yinson Holdings Berhad will gift Malaysia’s first gold medallist RM1mil, while Matrix Concepts Holdings Berhad and MJ Health screening Centre will reward RM500,000 each. However, if more than one athlete wins a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, the total RM2 million will be split between them.
Previously, Youth and Sports Ministry announced that Top Glove executive chairman Tan Sri Dr Lim Wee Chai would reward the athlete with a luxury serviced condominium, while Senheng executive chairman Lim Kim Heng would gift RM1 million cash to either shuttlers Aaron Chia, Soh Wooi Yik, and Chen Tang Jie if they win gold. The athlete will also get RM1 million from redONE Mobile (redONE), which will be disbursed in monthly instalments over a 10-year period..
