Prayagraj : The prevalence of dengue in male population is higher than in females in Sangam city, as around 62% of dengue cases reported this season are male, according to the statistics of the health department released here on Friday. Data revealed that out of the total 87 dengue cases reported till Oct 4 in the city, trans-Ganga and trans-Yamuna pockets, 62% were males (54), higher than females with 38% dengue cases (33). The report further showed that dengue was found more in the age group of 12-45 years.
Altogether, 87 persons in the age bracket of 5-62 were affected by the vector-borne disease, which spreads rapidly during the rainy season in places of high humidity. District malaria officer (Prayagraj) AK Singh said, "On Friday itself, a total of seven cases of dengue were reported in the district, taking the toll up to 87." He, however, said, "While 64 cases were reported in the urban areas, 23 cases were detected in rural pockets of trans-Ganga and trans-Yamuna.
" Currently, a total of 15 patients are undergoing treatment for dengue. While two are admitted to hospital, 13 others are being treated at their respective homes. Singh, meanwhile, said, "Data of dengue patients have been analysed to check which age group and gender is more susceptible to dengue fever and viral infection.
