Moment bride serenades her groom with Shania Twain ballad on their wedding day as she walks down the aisle to meet him at the altar By Jowena Riley Published: 11:46, 5 August 2024 | Updated: 11:47, 5 August 2024 e-mail View comments A bride added a heartfelt gesture to her nuptials by serenading her husband with a sweet song as she walked down the aisle. Sophie Hammill, 31, from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, married partner Paul, 36, in a charming ceremony held at The Engine Shed in Wetherby in July. But the occasion could not be complete without a musical number which described their love story - performed directly by the bride herself.

Sophie and Paul met at work in their roles as ambulance staff in 2018, and the pair now share six children aged between eight months and 14 in a blended family. In December 2021, Paul proposed to Sophie at a restaurant in Wetherby, where they went on their first date - but little did the groom know he would be serenaded by his would-be wife at their wedding a stones throw away only three years later. As she stuns in a white lace gown and chiffon veil while clutching onto a bouquet of pink and white roses, Sophie sports a rather unusual addition to the traditional ensemble - a white headset complete with a microphone. Guests can be seen gasping in shock as they realise the opening line to Shania Twain 's 1997 classic You're Still The One is, in fact, being performed by the bride in real time. As she arrives at the altar, Sophie hands her bouquet to the minister and embraces her husband while she concludes the song. Sophie, an ambulance practitioner and student paramedic, has since said she was 'very nervous' in the run up to the special moment, but it luckily went well as she managed to get through the song 'without any tears.

' She explained: 'A few months before the wedding, I decided to give it a go. Only my maid of honour, bridesmaids, and mum knew about it - no one else did.' I was worried at first that he'd find it awkward but he really loved it. He felt quite emotional - I think he was trying not to cry in front of all his friends.' Meanwhile, Paul, an associate ambulance practitioner admits he 'struggled to contain his emotions' when he turned around and realised his wife was singing.

He added: 'I was blown away - she did an absolutely amazing job organising our big day. This was just the icing on the cake!' However, the newlyweds both agree that the surprise performance made their wedding day all the more special. Speaking about her confidence as a performer, Sophie admits she doesn't 'have the time' to sing professionally, adding: 'I'm not really a singer to tell you the truth.

' 'But I've always enjoyed singing since I was little and love singing in the shower or while I'm driving. She continued: 'I was very nervous before I started performing but with all the stress and build up before the wedding day, I also just felt so relieved and happy to get to the day. 'My little girl, Amaya, was singing along as I performed and I think all my children were very surprised.
