However, a statement confirmed that a new panel will be formed in a matter of two months. The Malayalam film industry was hit hard after the Justice K Hema Committee released a disturbing report documenting the abuse and maltreatment of women in the industry. The ripple effect left two major personalities stepping aside amid accusations of inappropriate behaviour of sexual misconduct with women.
AMMA Committee To Be Formed within Two Months In light of recent events, the organisation announced the dissolution of the executive committee. This was a result of sexual misconduct allegations against some members, which were brought to light through various media channels. A news report by On Manorama read, “AMMA has decided to disperse the executive committee on moral grounds in the light of allegations made by some actors against some of the committee members.
A new committee will be formed after an election within two months.” News broke on Sunday with more reports highlighting continued incidents of harassment. Past allegations against the actor-politician Mukesh have also re-emerged.
In light of these events, Director Ranjith and actor Siddique have chosen to resign from their authoritative positions in a state-run film academy and the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA)respectively. About Hema Committee Report The recently unveiled Justice Hema Committee report, albeit a redacted version, bares open some deeply troubling incidents of women facing harassment in the Mollywood sector. Moreover, it provides a revealing insight into several scenarios where women are ill-treated or exploited in their workspace.
The Hema Committee report contained 235 pages which recently came into the public domain with the identities of all interviewees and those interrogated camouflaged. It disclosed about a group of 10 to 15 influential men, which included producers, actors, and directors, who left a mark on the Malayalam film industry. This dossier is the result of meticulous work by a trio panel spearheaded by an ex-judge from the Kerala High Court, appointed by the state authority back in 2017.
