Dry eye is a condition that occurs when the eyes do not produce enough quality tears, leading to burning, stinging and general ocular discomfort , according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Julie Bowen, best known for her role as Claire Dunphy on the sitcom "Modern Family," spoke with Fox News Digital in an on-camera interview about her recent diagnosis with the condition. "You can’t just wet the top of your eyeball and treat the inflammation, which is what I had been trying to do [with eyedrops]," she said.
