Missouri men’s and women’s golf capped off a tough week with lackluster showings in the final round of the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Wednesday in Johnson, Arkansas. The men’s team, which had their worst round of the week with a 30-over 318 on the final day, placed ninth out of 10 teams across the three-day tournament, shooting a 56-over 920. Junior Virgilio Paz entered the final round in the top 15 but dropped six places after shooting a five-over 77 to finish in 20th with an overall score of 9-over 225.
Sophomore Veikka Viskari shot a 79, the worst mark of the entire tournament for him, on Wednesday to place 22nd at 10-over 225. Graduate student Mattias Varjun finished in 40th place with a 224 while seniors Dagbjartur Sigurbrandsson and Trevor Mierl tied for 50th at 239. LSU earned the team title by16 strokes, shooting 2-under 862.
A pair of LSU golfers — Gunnlaugur Arni Sveinsson (7-under 209) and Algot Kleen (5-under 211) — finished atop the individual leaderboard through three rounds. Missouri’s women’s team also finished in ninth place in its 10-team competition, finishing with a 65-over 929. The Tigers closed the tournament with their highest round of the tournament, shooting a 32-over 320.
MU senior Ffion Tynan entered the day in fourth place, just four strokes off the lead, but closed the tournament in 15th after shooting a 11-over 83 in the final round. Tynan struggled to get anything going, only making four pars, and she finished with a thre.
