The cause and manner of Prather's death are still under investigation, the Friday press release said. The remains were recovered from a log jam near the 6600 block of Mullan Road. Prather, 43, was first reported missing on Dec.
30, 2023, out of Missoula. She had last been seen near the 1000 block of Rollins Street, in the Slant Streets neighborhood. Law enforcement had previously said that Prather left home without her personal belongings or clothing appropriate for the cold temperatures outside.
Missing-person posters distributed through town after her disappearance indicated she may have been experiencing a mental health crisis. Missoula Police Department was the lead agency investigating her case. By March, police said they had exhausted all leads .
