Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino has announced that acclaimed actress, activist, author, and the newly crowned Miss Universe Canada 2024 Ashley Callingbull will host the resort’s second annual Indigenous Fashion Show on Saturday, Nov. 2. Callingbull made history when she was crowned Miss Universe Canada 2024 on July 27, becoming the first Indigenous woman to win the title.

A member of the Enoch Cree Nation, she will be the first First Nations representative from North America to compete for the title of Miss Universe, when the pageant takes place in Mexico this fall. In addition, Callingbull, 34, is the first married woman and the first woman over 28 to claim the title of Miss Universe Canada. Breaking barriers and setting new standards in beauty and grace is nothing new for Callingbull.

In 2015, she became the first Canadian and Indigenous winner of the Mrs. Universe title, and, in 2022, she was the first Indigenous woman to appear as a Sports Illustrated model. “Our 2nd Annual Indigenous Fashion Show will be an evening of inspiration and celebration, and Ashely Callingbull is the perfect host,” said Joanne Israel, general manager at Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino.

“Ashley has elegantly represented Indigenous culture on the global stage. She inspires young Indigenous girls to see their heritage as a source of pride by celebrating the strength, beauty and resiliency of Indigenous people, culture, and traditions through her work.” Taking place during Native American Heritage Month, the Indigenous Fashion Show will showcase the talents of Indigenous designers and models from across North America.

The show features a beautiful blend of traditional and contemporary designs that celebrate the rich cultural heritage and artistry of Indigenous fashion. Tickets for this years’ event will go on sale in the coming weeks. For updates and more information, visit senecaniagaracasino.
