Veteran actress Miriam Margolyes says the only reason she has not retired yet is so she can pay for care in her final years. She has earned £365,000 on cameo since COVID-19 and revealed she got £250,000 for her memoir. Asked why she needs so much money, the actor and TV host said: "I don’t gamble at all! I'm worried that I won't have enough money for carers when I finally get paralysed or whatever it is that's going to happen to me.

"I'm saving up cash so that I can pay people to look after me and my partner. We don't have children, so I need to make sure I'm going to be looked after in the way that I've become accustomed." Harry Potter star Miriam has been dating Heather Sutherland, 81, since they met while working on a BBC radio drama together in the late 1960s but they have always lived apart.

Earlier this month she told how she now wants to move in with her, saying: "We want to live together now because we haven’t got long left. She is 81 and am 83, We don’t know yet how we are going to do that. Brexit ruined our life when it comes to living in Italy, so it really is a problem.

” She added of her partner: “My life is made whole by the fact that she is in it. Heather is magnificent, highly educated, an academic and very private.” Miriam and Heather own a house in Tuscany and the actress previously revealed her plan was to retire to the Italian countryside.

She is back on TV soon with a new BBC series based Down Under called Miriam Margolyes: a New Australian Adventure. Asked about her success coming late in life, she told Radio Times(MUST REF): "I find it puzzling and very gratifying. I can’t totally explain it, but I do credit Graham Norton with a great deal of my success[appearance on his TV show].

I was always told that I would come into my own when I was older – I just didn’t know I would have to be this old for it to happen." On her new series, she said: "I’ve been going to Australia since 1980 and it has changed a lot. I wanted to make a series about belonging, to find out what tribes people feel they belong to – I hope viewers find it to be truthful, revealing and entertaining.
