Friday, August 23, 2024 Minnesota’s State Capitol Grounds were alive with color and culture on Saturday, August 17, as more than 25,000 people gathered for IndiaFest 2024. Organized by the India Association of Minnesota, this annual festival not only commemorates India’s Independence Day but also serves as a vibrant showcase of Asian Indian culture. Reflecting the growth of the Asian Indian community—one of the largest and fastest-expanding ethnic groups in the region, as noted in the 2020 U.

S. census—IndiaFest has risen to become the second-largest event of its kind in the Midwest. “It’s important that we share our culture with each other and celebrate freely with our community here in Minnesota,” said Meena Bharti, President of the India Association of Minnesota.



“Additionally, providing the chance for people outside of the Asian Indian community to explore and experience our culture in true Indian fashion is a key opportunity for our organization.” “Seeing our communities come together to celebrate our heritage is a privilege to behold, and one we don’t take lightly,” says Bharti. “ From those who are connecting with their own Indian heritage to those who may be experiencing the culture for the first time, it’s our mission to bridge our communities and give everyone a true experience of India, right here in Minnesota.

” Festival attendees enjoyed a rich tapestry of activities and performances. The event featured an array of Indian cuisine, captivating music, and dance performances headlined by Nazia Alam, an award-winning Indian artist. Beyond entertainment, the festival offered cultural exhibits, traditional games, and fun activities designed specifically for children.

Interactive experiences such as a sari-tying competition and an Indian Bazaar allowed attendees to immerse themselves in Indian culture further. The bazaar was a popular spot, with stalls selling handicrafts, jewelry, and traditional clothing, drawing crowds eager to own a piece of Indian craftsmanship. “From those who are connecting with their own Indian heritage to those who may be experiencing the culture for the first time, it’s our mission to bridge our communities and give everyone a true experience of India, right here in Minnesota.

” The celebration reached its peak with Bollywood Night, lighting up the evening with high-energy music and dance that invited everyone to participate. This grand finale provided a fitting end to a day filled with celebration and cultural immersion, leaving attendees with lasting memories of IndiaFest 2024..
