Edmund Bartlett, Minister of Tourism for Jamaica, was honored with the prestigious Gusi Peace Prize in Manila on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to global tourism.

Often dubbed Asia’s counterpart to the Nobel Peace Prize, the Gusi Peace Prize celebrates outstanding achievements across a variety of fields, including peace, human rights, politics, science, and the arts. Minister Bartlett’s award highlights his leadership in promoting tourism resilience and sustainability, with a particular focus on small island developing states, and underscores his commitment to fostering global collaboration within the tourism sector. This recognition comes during the ongoing four-day Gusi Peace Prize event, which concludes on November 28, 2024.

The event brings together influential figures from diverse sectors to discuss pressing global challenges and explore collaborative solutions. During the ceremony, Minister Bartlett also led productive discussions with representatives from the Philippines Department of Tourism regarding a potential Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at strengthening tourism ties between the two nations. The proposed MOU will concentrate on key areas designed to stimulate mutual growth, innovation, and collaboration within the tour.
