The 20-year-old Stranger Things actress — who recently teased the final season of the hit sci-fi series — will bring her historical novel, Nineteen Steps, to life in a feature adaptation for Netflix , according to Deadline .

The British actress will produce under her PCMA banner and is expected to star in the project, per the outlet. Four-time Oscar nominee Anthony McCarten is set to write the screenplay. Jonathan Eirich will produce for Rideback, with Nick Reynolds serving as executive producer.



Nineteen Steps, a World War II novel inspired by the experiences of Brown’s grandmother, became a New York Times and Sunday Times bestseller after its release by William Morrow in September 2023. A pivotal event in the story is the Bethnal Green Tube disaster, a tragic incident during World War II in which 173 people lost their lives while seeking shelter during an air raid, marking one of the UK's worst civilian disasters of the war. During the promotional tour for Nineteen Steps, Brown would often recall how her grandmother inspired the book. She told Woman's Hour presenter Nuala McGovern: 'I love the history of older people and the stories they do tell, even if they are completely made up, which sometimes they are! But I hope after reading [Nineteen Steps] you go and talk to your grandparents or your parents and learn about your family history.

' Millie's grandmother Ruth passed away in November 2020 from Alzheimer's Disease and the actress revealed how she honoured her nan's passing when recording the audiobook. The star explained: 'Losing her was one of the hardest things I've ever gone through and I don't know if I necessarily healed from it fully. 'So doing the audiobook I was a bit scared of talking it because I'd read it privately so much to myself.
