Lauded pastry chef Christina Tosi’s Milk Bar will soon open its doors in Chicago, marking its first Midwest location in a partnership with Boka Restaurant Group, bringing with it rainbow-flecked birthday cake and over-the-top cookie combinations. “We’ve been looking at Chicago for a really long time,” said Tosi, who grew up in the Midwest just outside Cleveland. “It’s always been one of my favorite towns, and a place where you just sort of feel seen and understood implicitly, which I love.

” Tosi said she’s particularly thrilled to have scored a spot in Chicago’s Fulton Market District, on the first floor of The Hoxton on 200 N. Green St. “It’s such an energetic neighborhood and I find myself walking around early in the morning, late at night, just always feeling like I’m buzzing with creative fuel and energy,” Tosi told the Tribune Monday.



“And there’s always something magnificent to happen upon, to discover. ..

. It’s where Chicago becomes the biggest small town.” The sweet shop, which opened in New York City in 2008, is known for infusing nostalgic, childhood flavors into crossovers between classic American desserts and supermarket snacks, like with its cereal milk soft serve.

Tosi said she discovered the idea for cereal milk-flavored sweets 16 or so years ago while standing in the cereal aisle of a bodega in New York City. When incorporating it into a soft serve, the James Beard Award-winning chef said she chose a cereal that reminded her o.
