Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer ‘s memoir, True Gretch , jumped to the top of the New York Times Bestseller list amid speculation of a potential vice presidential bid. Despite her emphatic denials, the governor has been subject to rampant rumors of a potential 2024 presidential bid for months, as some Democrats and donors pushed for her as an alternative to President Biden.
Now that Democrats are rallying around Vice President Kamala Harris following Joe Biden’s decision to bow out of the race, Whitmer is being touted as a possible pick for the vice presidency . In a candid and often humorous tone, she writes about Michigan’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and other moments in her career and life. She discusses tangling with the Trump White House to secure FEMA money and PPE during the pandemic, as well as the plot by a right-wing militia group to kidnap her, which was foiled by the FBI.
