Simon Bonwick, a Michelin-starred and Good Food Guide-recognised chef who has worked at The Crown in Burchetts Green and The Dew Drop Inn in Hurley, is setting up shop on the first floor of The Oarsman to bring his ‘bougie’ culinary style to the people of Marlow. From September, the 55-year-old will invite locals to try a curated six-course ‘Choisi’ menu cooked entirely by him for ‘intimate’ 14-person groups, with dishes including a freshly cracked crab taco with apple and caramelised nuts and wagyu beef filled with beef sauce. It will be accompanied by The Oarsman’s “phantasmagorical” wine menu, curated by founder Nigel Sutcliffe who opened the pub alongside James Mclean in 2021.

Simon said: “Nigel and I have known each other for ages, and he has kindly given me a space to create, hang my art and make a home for my cooking. “We’ve made the upstairs at The Oarsman into a proper nice little bougie pad. I have a shoebox-sized kitchen to cook in totally alone – it’s absolutely magical! “I’m madly excited to be cooking solo again and am looking forward to this new challenge.

These soirees promise to be intimate, exclusive and luxurious. The shared table concept is new to me – I’m looking forward to seeing how it evolves.” Bookings for the residence are now open and can be made by calling 07596 517189.
