Michael Kiwanuka has shared new song ‘Rebel Soul’. The songwriter surprised fans during his Glastonbury set this summer, sharing a dose of new material live at the Pyramid Stage. Michael Kiwanuka’s new album will follow suit, with ‘Small Changes’ set to land on November 22nd.
His first full length since scooping the Mercury with ‘KIWANUKA’, the English songwriter is currently touring North America with Brittany Howard. A smattering of previews have gone live, with ‘Rebel Soul’ out now. Beautifully understated, the loping bassline acts as a pivot, with Michael Kiwanuka’s voice displaying huge restraint.
In a pre-release note, the English artist name-checks Bill Withers and Sade as reference points, and there’s definitely an aspect of Sade’s clinical soul within the DNA of this song. Looking ahead, Michael Kiwanuka tours the UK in spring – catch him at London’s eventim Apollo on March 10th, and Manchester’s O2 Apollo on March 13th. Tune in now.
