Wednesday, August 14, 2024 Mexico saw a 6.24% rise in international visitors and a record US$17.5 billion in tourism spending in the first half of 2024, though numbers are still below 2019 levels.

Mexico saw a 6.24% increase in international visitor numbers during the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, with 21.8 million travelers welcomed.



According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), tourism spending also climbed 7.7% in the first half of the year, hitting a record US$17.5 billion.

This figure is 34.6% higher than the amount recorded in 2019, before the pandemic. Mexico News Daily reports that tourist numbers are still below pre-pandemic levels, when Mexico welcomed 22 million international travelers during the first half of 2019.

According to Mexico’s Tourism Ministry (Sectur), the first half of this year saw 11.9 million travelers arrive by air, marking a 4.9% increase from the previous year and an 18.

6% rise from 2019. The majority of these travelers come from the United States, Canada, and Colombia. Cancun, Mexico City, and Los Cabos remain Mexico’s top airports, although other airports with international connections experienced the most significant growth, with a 14.
