An iconic psychological thriller starring Mia Goth will be added to Netflix this August. Pearl, directed by Ti West, is among the top-rated horrors on Rotten Tomatoes and was even praised by legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese. Released in 2022, it serves as the prequel to mystery-horror X.

Goth stars as the titular character, a young woman who is trapped on an isolated farm in Texas. Tending to her ailing father under her mother's watchful eye, she begins to fantasise about the glamorous lives she's seen in films. Convinced she shares same destiny as movie stars, Pearl's temptations and repressions collide - and a descent into madness ensues.

David Corenswet, Tandi Wright, Matthew Sunderland, and Emma Jenkins-Purro also star in the 2022 hit. The critics consensus reads: "Pearl finds Ti West squeezing fresh gore out of the world he created with X -- and once again benefiting from a brilliant Mia Goth performance." Scorsese was also stunned by the film, hailing it 'mesmerising' and adding that it was 'powered by a pure, undiluted love for cinema.

' Taking to the trailer's comments on YouTube, fans shared why they loved the film so much. One said: "This movie was so disturbing. Not because it was gruesome, but Mia Goth's acting is so good that every time she started to scream or have a mental breakdown it gave me so much anxiety.

" Another wrote: "Mia Goth is so good in this movie it’s insane, this movie was brilliant. I wish the academy would recognize a performance like this because she’s completely deserving" as a third agreed: "This movie was amazing! My favourite A24 film ever. " X's long-awaited sequel, MaXXXine, dropped earlier this year. It sees Goth reprise her role from X, as adult entertainer Maxine Minx. The slasher follows her as she gets her big break in the film industry - but her bloody past is at risk of being uncovered.
