George Gascón, the city's district attorney, held a press conference where he shared his recommendation for an upcoming court hearing in November. Erik and Lyle Menendez were convicted of murdering their parents in 1996 and have been serving life sentences without parole.
New evidence was brought forward last year that supports Erik's statements that he was sexually abused by his father. With the evidence in mind, Gascón has decided to resentence the brothers to life with parole - which they would be instantly eligible for release.
