Tuesday, August 20, 2024 Melaka is poised to welcome approximately 200,000 international visitors through a series of 52 Genting Dream Cruise voyages, slated to begin in November. These cruises will follow the Singapore-Melaka route, marking a significant boost to the region’s tourism sector. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced that Resorts World Cruises, the operator of the luxurious Genting Dream, is set to enhance its offerings by introducing a new package.

This ‘2 Night Cruises’ package will feature Melaka as a fresh stopover destination, adding to the appeal of their already popular itineraries. This strategic move is expected to draw a considerable influx of tourists, further cementing Melaka’s reputation as a must-visit destination. The introduction of Melaka as a stopover on these cruises not only highlights the city’s rich cultural heritage but also aligns with broader efforts to revitalize the local tourism industry.



The event also saw the attendance of prominent figures such as Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman, the Exco for Tourism, Heritage, Arts, and Culture, alongside Michael Goh, the president of RW Cruises Pte Ltd. The gathering highlighted the positive momentum within Melaka’s tourism sector, which has demonstrated remarkable growth. The data revealed that as of July 2024, the number of tourists visiting Melaka had reached an impressive 8,714,386, marking an 84.

55 percent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2023. This significant surge underscores the thriving development of tourism in Melaka, reflecting the successful efforts to attract more visitors to the region.
