MEDINA, Ohio – Amateur photographers of all ages are invited to visit the Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum this fall to capture images of the beautiful foliage, architecture and more. Teresa Merkle of Friends of the Cemetery said this is the third year in a row that Friends of the Cemetery are offering a photo contest. The contest will take place Sept.

1 through Oct. 25 and any amateur photographer may enter one original photo of his or her choice that captures the “serenity and beauty of Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum’s landscape, still life, animal and plant life and/or architecture.” “We do this somewhat in conjunction with our Arboretum Walk which takes place Oct.

19,” Merkle said. “That way any photographers who attend the walk will have the opportunity to take pictures then, but really photographers can stop by the cemetery any time to take pictures. The cemetery is very pretty in the fall.

” Merkle said the contest is open to all ages and said prizes will be given for the best photo in the 12 and under category as well as 13-17 and 18 and older. The winners in the youngest two categories will receive $50 gift cards to Sweets & Geeks and the winner of the adult category will receive a $50 Foundry Social gift card. “We have an independent panel of judges which includes the mayor, an artist and a professional photographer,” she said.

Merkle said the winning photos will be displayed on the Friends of the Cemetery website and all the photos will be displayed on a rolling screen at the Medina Library. Anyone who wants to enter the contest can visit friendsofmedinacemetery.org and click on the events tab to find information about the contest.
