A University of Central Lancashire student who is the first in her family to go to university has been awarded a fully funded medicine scholarship. Ammarah Patel, from Bolton , has received the Livesey Scholarship which will see her tuition fees paid for the duration of the five-year Medicine & Surgery (MBBS) degree course. The 18-year-old received the award after successfully completing the UCLan Scholars Programme – Livesey Medicine Pathway, which was developed for help North West based students who are from backgrounds that are under-represented at universities.
Ammarah, who has just started her first year of studies at the university’s Preston Campus, said: “I was elated and beyond grateful to hear that I was chosen as this year's recipient of the Livesey Scholarship. “As the first in my family to go to university, this scholarship means the world to me. “It is a materialisation of all my hard work over the past few years to get to where I am today, and I will be eternally grateful to the University for this opportunity.
